Game Details
The arcade version of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior launched in Japan on March 7, 1991, and in North America on February 6, 1991, on Capcom's CP System hardware, introducing a six-button layout and eight unique fighters in one-on-one combat, selling over 200,000 units worldwide and shaping the fighting game genre. Subsequent arcade updates maintained its prominence: Champion Edition (1992) added playable bosses and mirror matches, Hyper Fighting (1992) increased speed and added new moves, Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (1993) used CP System II for enhanced graphics and audio with four new characters, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo (1994) introduced Super Combos and hidden character Akuma, keeping the game popular throughout the early 1990s.
