Game Details
Released in October 1997, Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact expanded the first game’s roster, adding Hugo and Urien, and separating Yun and Yang into distinct characters, giving Yang unique Special Moves and Super Arts. Akuma returned as a secret opponent, with a stronger CPU version, Shin Akuma, appearing in single-player. The total playable roster increased to 14.
New mechanics include EX Specials—enhanced Special Moves using part of the Super Art gauge—tech throws to escape grabs, and character-specific Personal Actions that grant benefits. Super Meter length, frame data, and some animations were updated. Players can adjust their Super Art selection if challenged by a second player.
Single-player mode features eight opponents, with character-specific rivals and final opponents, including conditional matches against Akuma and Shin Akuma. Bonus rounds return with “Parry the Ball,” a minigame for practicing parries.
