Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, released in Japanese arcades on September 10, 1993, for the CP System II hardware, expanded the roster to 16 characters by adding Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long, and T. Hawk, each with unique moves and fighting styles. The game featured enhanced graphics and audio with redesigned character portraits, stages, and a new announcer, while rebalancing character moves and attributes for fairer gameplay. It introduced a scoring system tracking combos, first attacks, reversals, and recoveries with bonus points, offered eight color schemes for each character, and included a Tournament Battle mode that allowed eight-player single-elimination competitions using four networked arcade cabinets. These improvements made Super Street Fighter II a significant evolution in the arcade fighting genre and influenced subsequent entries in the series.
